Jon Atherton was born in Brisbane, and after being schooled etc for several years down south came back with the army in 1987
After completing part of a biotechnology degree Jon Atherton joined the Army reserve working full time in the commando signals unit 126 Signal Squadron Special Forces.
Jon Atherton decided to join the Regular Army and went to Duntroon in 1986, he graduated about 20 years ago as a lieutenant. Jon started his own business after leaving the army in 1991.
Many business opportunities presented themselves in 1995 when the internet started to go mainstream. Initially Jon Atherton worked for Microsoft in their new MSN project, that was shut down when the web interrupted Microsoft’s closed network. Jon Atherton also ran a mail order business selling high tech bike parts, after building a website for this business he decided to fund the creation of a software package to enable web commerce in hosted sites.
After some years of growth in the sales of this software Jon Atherton built banking and advertising networks for some very large e-commerce sites. Many of these sites had millions of visitors per day and included Gaming, Adult and Dating sites. Jon Atherton cancelled the banking accounts of some porn site operators after they became too aggressive in their marketing tactics, unfortunately this caused some of these idiots to post lies on chat boards and websites. Jon Atherton’s interests include skiing, car racing property development and spending time with his wife and 3 kids.
